The habit inventory

The habit inventory

Open your habit app. Count how many you have active. Now be honest: how many do you actually check? How many are just visual noise you guiltily ignore?

If you have more than 5 active habits and you're not a Tibetan monk, you probably have too many.

The more-is-less paradox

Each added habit competes for the same limited resources: your energy, attention, willpower.

Better to do 3 things with 90% consistency than 10 things with 30% consistency.

The inventory exercise

Take pen and paper. List all your habits. For each, answer:

1. Do I still believe in this?
2. Am I doing it with real consistency?
3. Does it bring me closer to who I want to be?
4. What would happen if I eliminate it?

The three categories

Keep: Habits that work, that you do, that matter. These are your core.

Pause: Habits that may be good but aren't priority now.

Delete: Habits that no longer serve you. Let them go.

Eliminating habits isn't failing. It's making space. September is coming. Arrive light.
