The perfect routine doesn't exist

The perfect routine doesn't exist

I've seen dozens of perfect productivity systems. 2-hour morning routines. Elaborate trackers. 5-page daily journaling.

You know what they have in common? Most people who design them abandon them within weeks.

The perfectionism trap

We spend more time designing the perfect routine than executing an imperfect one. It's a sophisticated form of procrastination.

You don't need the perfect routine. You need a routine that works for your real life, not your ideal life.

The "Ideal Self" problem

When we design habits, we often do it for an idealized version of ourselves. That person who wakes up at 5AM fresh, who never has surprises, who always has energy.

That person doesn't exist.

Design for your worst day, not your best day. If it works when everything goes wrong, it'll work when everything goes right.

The 3 reality questions

1. Will I do it when exhausted? If no, make it smaller.

2. Will I do it when traveling? If not, you need a portable version.

3. Will I do it without motivation? If it requires motivation to exist, it's not a habit yet.

Good beats perfect. Stop optimizing. Start doing.
